Giving Back: Why LDC Supports Local Nonprofits in Texas

LDC aims to support local nonprofit organizations that have a strong presence in the hometowns of our team members and clients. In the last year, we have focused on giving back to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas (RMHC CTX), Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas, Mobile Loaves & Fishes Community First! Village and Austin Habitat for Humanity

Our team is very fortunate. The community has been incredible to us, and as a company and as individuals, LDC wants to be just as supportive in return.

As a Company

Just one way in which LDC gives back to local nonprofits groups is through monetary donations. It’s something that has resonated with our team. Each year our team members recommend organizations to donate to, then as a group, we decide where donations go.

LDC also volunteers with organizations to allow the team to touch the organization on a more personal level. Whether through individual or group volunteer efforts. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has made that more difficult in the last year. LDC is excited to get back out and donate time again to these organizations we care deeply about.

Since one component of our business is residential development, we resonate with local nonprofits like Mobile Loaves and Fishes and Habitat for Humanity. We have seen the impact of the organization on the industry and want to participate in their work. For example, volunteering during a Habitat for Humanity build or Community First clean-up day.

Bill McDonald, LDC Partner, kickstarted LDC’s involvement with Make-A-Wish. Several years ago, we met with a cancer survivor named Alex. He was helping to raise money for other cancer patients and survivors. We helped support him and his family go to Greece during this time. But instead of just making donations to fulfill the wish, we used one of our quarterly team events to build our relationship with the organization and Alex. It was a priority that the team met the recipient of their donations.

The best part for me was this became a family event. So not only did our employees see the struggles others face and the impact these local nonprofit organizations have, but all our families did too. Alex was able to see who supported him and our team got to meet Alex.

Aside from our team’s aspirations for giving back, we also reach out to our clients. Our absolutes include our people, reputations, and relationships. For LDC, that means building meaningful relationships outside of contractual obligations. One of our clients works closely with Ronald McDonald House, and that’s how we began our relationship with them.

As Individuals

LDC also supports employee’s individual aspirations to give back to the community. The company has an employee matching funds program. Throughout the year, as employees donate to local nonprofit organizations, LDC matches their donations. This also includes the sponsorship of local events and organizations.

I learned early in my career that you have to give back. Opportunities don’t just happen. It’s important to me that we as an organization set a precedent for future generations to support their communty.

It’s easy to ask someone for donations. It speaks volumes that our employees personally donate time and money, and we want to support them and the organizations they feel strongly about.
